What does the score sheet look like?

How many events do I have to do?

You only have to do ONE in addition to finals.

Who can’t compete?

If you work for a manufacture and they fund your work. (Yes, this means you; Gary, Mark and Scott.) If you work for a manufacture, there will be a two seat manufacture class, which will NOT be co-mingled with the rest of the cars in the "normal" classes.

What Classes are there?

There are two classes. The One Seat Class is for those competitors who only want to be judged from one seat. The Two Seat Class is for those competitors who want to be judged from two seats at the same time. If you are in an IASCA class that supports one seat judging, you will be allowed to choose which class you want in. If you are in an IASCA class that supports two seats judging, you will be only allowed to compete in the two seat class.

How about judging at the preliminary events?

For Judging at preliminary events, there will not be separate judging. We will be using your Sound Quality ONLY scores from the IASCA score sheet to determine the winner.

What does scoring look like for the final event?

Scoring will be done by 6 judges. The lowest score sheet for your vehicle and the highest score sheet for your vehicle will be discarded. The remaining four scores will averaged. The highest average score will win.

How will scoring done at preliminary events?

You will get 1 point towards the final event for each preliminary event you do. If you are located further west of the Mississippi, you get 2 points for the first event you attend as a way to compensate for not having shows in the Central and Western portions of the US. A maximum of 3 points may be accumulated before the final event.

What CD’s will be used for Judging?

We will be using Two CD’s for Judging. One is a Car Audio Nationals CD that will be provided to you when you join Car Audio Nationals and the second is the 2008 Grammy CD published by Hip-O Records. Judges will select the songs that they wish to listen to from the Car Audio Nationals CD and you as a competitor will select one song from the 2008 Grammy CD for judges to listen to in your vehicle.

The 2008 Grammy CD will be released on January 29th. Once it is released, we will be listing the tracks here.

Who will the judges be?

We are looking for judges now. Email me if you’re interested in being a judge at the final event. Judges can NOT currently be tied to ANY manufacture. Which means, if you work for a manufacture, you can’t be a judge for this series. We want judges without axes to grind and with a good understanding of car audio. Once we get a set of judges, they will be announced here on www.caraudionationals.com

What does it cost?

The cost per car is $150.00 USD for the whole series. This is in addition to any and all show fees charged by the preliminary event promoters to enter their IASCA sanctioned shows.

What are the prizes?

The highest Sound Quality Score for each of the preliminary events will win $500.00. The Highest Sound Quality score for One Seat Judging will win $1500.00 at the final event. The Highest Sound Quality score for Two Seat Judging will win $1500.00 at the final event.

How Will Winners Be Selected?

Preliminary Event Winners. The IASCA score sheets from each of the qualifying events will be emailed / faxed to Car Audio Nationals. Based upon the highest Sound Quality score, the winner of the qualifying event will be paid 500.00 after verification and ONLY if they attend the final event. You must have paid your annual membership to Car Audio Nationals BEFORE your first event in order to qualify. There are no classes at Qualifying Events.

Final Event Winner. Based upon the scoring done by Car Audio Nationals judges, one winner from each class will be selected. The highest score sheet and lowest score sheet from each competitor will be removed and the remaining four score sheets will be averaged.

What is the difference between IASCA, USACi, MECA and Car Audio Nationals?

Easy. To one extent or the other, they are sanctioning bodies. We aren’t. We have no intention of ever being a sanctioning body. We will leverage the rules and systems those sanctioning bodies have in place now and use them.

They are doing events all around the country with dedicated event coordinators and the like with shows ranging from small ones to co-located larger shows to dedicated large Sound Off Shows.

Car Audio Nationals is a marketing organization who is only focusing on 4 events in 2008. Our goal is to make SQ a “marketable” event type much like other sports such as Drifting, Drag Racing, etc.

Car Audio Nationals will also be focused 100% on the Sound Quality aspect of car audio, with NO installation or SPL judging.

Competition CD

Most of the current CDs are recorded with multiple microphones in a dead-sounding studio, with reverb and overdubs added in the mix. We decided that partnering with a audiophile record label vs. building and mastering a CD from scratch ourselves would end up sounding better and be better for you as a competitor.

After looking at a wide variety of labels, other audiophile labels do great recordings, too, but few capture the full-bodied tonality that we were looking for. And fewer still have signed an eclectic array of artists. We selected Chesky Records to partner with to build this disk. Chesky's approach is purer: It records in the natural reverberance of St. Peter's Church in Manhattan, using custom-made vacuum-tube recording gear, a single microphone (in most cases), and no audio processing or overdubbing. The result is a spacious, natural sound you simply cannot hear in ordinary commercial recordings. (See Equipment Below.)

As you can see from the track listing, we have a wide variety of artists and some new takes on some old favorites from artists such as Al Green, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley and U2.

Monitor Speakers:	PMC LB1 - Keep in mind Chesky cannot use large audiophile speakers. Most of the recording are made in VERY small rooms in St. Peter’s Church, so they usually sits about 3 feet from the speakers. The PMC speakers are designed for “nearfield” listening of this sort. If they were to sit this close to normal audiophile grade speakers, the high frequencies would be overwhelming.
